Your ongoing care, centred around your regular GP.

What is MyMedicare?

MyMedicare is a free and voluntary patient registration system introduced by the Australian Government. It allows you to formally register with your regular general practice and nominate your preferred GP. The goal is simple: better, more continuous care by supporting long-term relationships between patients, GPs, and care teams

Why is MyMedicare being introduced?

Research shows that people who regularly see the same GP and care team have better health outcomes. By registering with MyMedicare, you’re helping strengthen that ongoing relationship – allowing your GP to better understand your health history, needs and goals over time.

What are the benefits for patients?

If you register with MyMedicare at our practice, you may benefit from:

• Greater continuity of care with your regular GP and practice
• Access to longer Medicare-funded telehealth appointments with your GP
• Improved access to care for mental health, chronic conditions, disability support and complex health needs
• For eligible patients: higher bulk billing incentives for longer telehealth appointments
• Easier access to telehealth: registration removes the need for a face-to-face appointment in the past 12-months to access Medicare-rebated telehealth services with your GP.

More MyMedicare-linked benefits will continue to be added over time as part of strengthening Medicare.

Is MyMedicare compulsory?

No. MyMedicare is completely voluntary, and it is free to register.

Am I eligible to register?

You’re generally eligible if you:

• Have a Medicare card or DVA Veteran Card, and
• Have visited our practice face-to-face at least two times in the past 24 months

Parents and children can also be registered together at the same practice.

How do I register for MyMedicare?

You can register in whichever way is easiest for you:

1. Online via HotDoc
   • Follow this link, complete the form and sign, then submit: https://www.hotdoc.com.au/forms/east-adealiade-healthcare-services-mymedicare-registration
     
2. Online via myGov
   • Log in to your Medicare Online Account through the myGov app
   • Search for our practice and select your preferred GP
   • Submit your registration (we’ll then confirm it on our end)
3. Paper form at the practice
   • Ask our reception team for a MyMedicare registration form
   • Once signed, we’ll complete the process for you

Can I still see other doctors or practices?

Yes. Registering with MyMedicare does not stop you from seeing other GPs or healthcare providers when needed. However, MyMedicare-specific benefits are linked to your registered practice.

Important: You can only be registered with one practice

You can only be registered with one MyMedicare practice at a time. If you register with MyMedicare at another practice, your registration with us will automatically be cancelled and MyMedicare-linked benefits will no longer apply here.

What about privacy?

Your privacy is protected.

• MyMedicare does not store your medical records
• It only records your registration details (such as your chosen practice and GP)
• Your clinical information stays securely with your practice and/or your My Health Record
